Starting solids and giving your baby food should feeling like an exciting milestone. But if right now it feels more overwhelming than wonderful - please know you are not alone. I've spent nearly 30 years as a paediatric nurse and health visitor, and I've never seen so many parents feeling anxious about weaning. That's exactly why I created the Weaning Without Worry™ Clinic - a calm, one-to-one space, online and at my Studio, where you can get the clear, professional, friendly baby weaning support you actually need, without the noise and confusion of the internet.

Why Does Weaning Feel So Hard Right Now?
You're doing everything right. You're researching, you're trying your best, and you care so much about your baby. So why does starting solids feel like such a minefield? Here's what I see every single day with the families I support:
NHS support is stretched thin
Health visitors are incredible - but appointments are short, services are under pressure, and there simply isn't time to go through everything you need. Most parents leave their health visitor appointment still unsure when to start weaning, what first foods to offer, or how to handle their baby gagging. It's not your fault, and it's not the health visitor's fault. The system just doesn't have enough time to give you what you need.
The internet is making things worse, not better
Social media is full of confident opinions - and a lot of them contradict each other. One account swears by baby-led weaning. Another insists on purées. Someone shares a choking video that leaves you too scared to put anything in front of your baby. Instead of feeling reassured, you close the app feeling more anxious than when you opened it. Sound familiar? Remember anyone can put anything online and it's often opinion not evidence based professional advice.
Family advice doesn't always match current guidance
Grandparents mean well - but weaning advice has changed dramatically in the last generation. I was put on solids at three months old! Current NHS guidance is very different, and navigating those well-meaning but conflicting opinions from family can add a whole extra layer of stress on top of everything else.
Fewer parents prepare before they begin
Years ago, parents attended weaning workshops before starting solids. Now, with so much free information online (even if it's confusing), many parents skip that preparation — and only look for help once the worry has already set in. If you'd love to feel confident before or just as you start, my in-person Weaning Without Worry™ Workshop is available at my woodland studio on the Surrey/Hampshire border, in your home, or shared with friends and family.
Does Any of This Sound Like You?
The parents who come to me almost always say one (or more) of these things:
"I'm terrified my baby is going to choke."
"I don't even know what first foods to start with."
"My baby gags and I completely panic."
"Everyone online says something different — who do I trust?"
"I feel like I'm doing it all wrong."
"The meal planning is stressing me out before we've even started."
These worries are so, so common. And they deserve real support — not another search result, not a Facebook thread, Tik Tok or Instagram reel, full of conflicting opinions. Real, calm, professional support from someone who actually knows parents and babies.
"Parents often tell me they feel relief just from having the space to ask their questions — without feeling rushed, judged, or sent home with a generic leaflet."

How I Help: My Three-Part Weaning Without Worry™ Approach
After nearly 30 years supporting families, I've found that parents feel most confident when we cover three things together. Here's what we'll work through, depending on your worries and needs:
1
Practical Weaning Guidance — The 'What Do I Actually Do?' Bit
We'll go through everything at a pace that suits you, including:
When and how to start introducing solid foods
First foods, finger foods and progressing through textures
Baby-led weaning vs purées — and how you can mix both approaches
How to introduce allergens safely (without the fear)
Simple portion sizes, flexible routines and easy meal ideas
Managing baby gagging calmly and confidently
You'll leave with a clear, simple plan you can actually use — not a 20-page document you'll never read.
2
Choking Safety & Confidence — So You Can Breathe at Mealtimes
Fear of choking is honestly the biggest thing that stops parents relaxing at mealtimes. As a paediatric nurse with emergency experience, I'll help you properly understand:
The difference between gagging and choking — it's not what most people think
How to prepare and offer foods safely to reduce choking risk
What to do in an emergency (and why most "choking" is actually just gagging)
How to feel calm and confident, not fearful, at every mealtime
We also cover First Aid for allergies so you can be confident introducing new foods.
I also offer an online First Aid for Weaning course — perfect for grandparents, partners and childminders too, so everyone around your baby feels prepared.
3
Your Confidence & Wellbeing Because You Matter Too
Weaning isn't just about food — it's about how you feel. If you're anxious and tense at mealtimes, your baby picks up on that. Part of my role is gently helping you:
Understand and reduce weaning anxiety
Feel calmer and more in control
Trust your own instincts (they're better than you think)
Actually enjoy this stage — because it can be really lovely
When you feel calm and confident, your baby usually relaxes too. It really does make a difference.
Why One-to-One Support Makes Such a Difference
Every baby is completely different. Some take to food straightaway. Some gag more than others. Some refuse certain textures. And every parent arrives with their own worries, their own history, and their own comfort level.
Group courses are useful for general information — but personalised weaning advice means we focus entirely on your baby, your questions, and what's actually going on in your home. No rushing. No sitting at the back wondering if your question is silly. Just you and me, working through it together.
