Paediatric Nurse, Health Visitor & Maternal Wellbeing Practitioner & Mum
Meet Katherine
Hello, I’m Katherine, the calm voice behind Baby Steps.
Parenthood is one of life's greatest adventures. It's also one of the most overwhelming.
Somewhere between the endless advice, social media opinions and sleepless nights, it's easy to lose confidence in yourself. That's why I created Baby Steps back in 2006.
For 30 years, I've been helping parents replace uncertainty with calm, practical support they can trust.
Whether you're learning First Aid, navigating your Weaning journey, enjoying Baby Massage or simply finding your way through the emotional rollercoaster of becoming a parent, my aim is simple:
Less noise. More calm. More confidence. Never alone.

It all started with one simple dream.

My Story
For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to care for babies.
In 1995, that dream became a reality when I trained as a Paediatric Nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Since then, I've spent more than three decades working within the NHS, including over 26 years in Paediatric Accident & Emergency, supporting babies, children and their families through some of life's most challenging moments.
But somewhere along the way, I realised something.
Parents didn't just need medical advice. They needed reassurance, someone to quietly say:
"You're doing better than you think."
So, in 2006, Baby Steps was born.
More than baby courses.
A calm haven for you and your baby
When I created Baby Steps, I wanted it to feel different. Not clinical. Not overwhelming. Not another place telling parents everything they're doing wrong.
Instead, I created a space where parents could slow down, ask questions without judgement and leave feeling lighter than when they arrived.
Today, Baby Steps supports families through:
-
Baby & Child First Aid
-
Weaning Without Worry™
-
Baby Massage & Relaxation
-
Soul-Full Mama
-
Wellbeing Events
-
One-to-One Support
-
Online Courses
Every course is different, but every one has the same purpose:
Helping parents feel calm, confident and connected.

Why parents trust Baby Steps

Professional experience, delivered with kindness.
Behind every workshop, course and conversation is over 30 years of professional experience. As a:
-
Registered Paediatric Nurse
-
Registered Health Visitor
-
Maternal Wellbeing Practitioner
-
Certified Infant Massage Instructor
-
Mum of two
I've had the privilege of supporting thousands of families through the NHS, hospitals, community settings and now the Baby Steps Studio.
Every recommendation I make is grounded in evidence, current guidance and years of real-life experience. But just as importantly...
It's delivered with warmth, empathy and understanding.
Professional Qualifications & Trusted Experience

Professional experience is only part of the story.
I'm a mum too.
I'm also mum to Isabella and William.
So whilst I bring decades of professional knowledge to every course, I also understand the emotional side of parenthood.
The sleepless nights.
The Googling at 2am.
Wondering whether you're doing enough.
Questioning every decision.
I've been there too. That's why Baby Steps isn't just about teaching practical skills.
It's about helping parents trust themselves again.

Twenty years later, my mission hasn't changed.

Why Baby Steps is different
Parenting has never come with a manual, but today it comes with something else too: an endless stream of opinions, advice and information that can leave even the most confident parents questioning themselves.
That's why Baby Steps exists.
My mission has always been to provide a calm, trusted space where parents can pause, ask questions and leave feeling more confident than when they arrived.
Whether you're joining me for First Aid, Weaning Without Worry™, Baby Massage or Soul-Full Mama, my hope is that you'll leave with practical knowledge, greater confidence and the reassurance that you're doing an amazing job.
Because when parents feel calmer, babies thrive too.

The Small Business Awards
Baby Steps is a Finalist
I am beyond excited to share that Baby Steps is a finalist at the 2026 The Small Business Awards!
Being a finalist for the National Small Business Awards means so much to me. Baby Steps has been my passion for over 20 years, created to give parents the trusted guidance, calm and support I know can make such a difference.
If Baby Steps has helped you, your family or someone you know, I’d be incredibly grateful for your vote. It would mean the world to me and help shine a light on the importance of supporting parents too.
